This
piece was one of the entries chosen for The Mosaic
Arts International 2008 Exhibition. It was on display at
the Bakehouse Arts Complex in Miami in the summer of
2008.
"A dramatic dragon", was the main request for this commision.
The clients favored the look of the beasts in European-based
myths. They are usually seen as powerful benevolent
creatures.
Several
compostions were submitted to the clients. The look of
the dragon was refined during the selection process and
a color palette chosen.
This
was a fun piece to work on. I wanted to experiment with
applying more detail in the body of the dragon without
the size variances attracting attention to themselves,
or disturbing the overall rhythm. During my intial
research, the beautifully powerful and contrast laden images
of John Howe were particularly inspiring.
