A mosaic for my cousin Inge.
Inge and I had some correspondence about the wonderful experiences of travel. She described a trip she and her sister, Jolanda, took to the Okavango Delta in Botswana. They camped in a tent and could hear nearby hippos all night. Enthralling or unnerving, you never know how it will affect you until you experience it. What a vision that gave me!
I was to travel to Nederland for a visit and thought, what better gift than a reminder of such an adventure. Needing a carry-on sized design, I abandoned the idea of incorporating a tent. Instead, I symbolically included Inge & Jolanda with their initials and focused on the Hippopotamus. Now the memory which forever lives within her heart also has a version in stone.
Its reception touched me more than I can say.
