This
is a proof of concept piece for a much larger project.
The premise is based on a quilt.Gathering
porcelain as well as ceramic tile of varying color and
texture is akin to having many strips of leftover cloth,
a great creative palette from which to fashion a quilt.
This "stone"
quilt's final form will take shape as an edging to separate
rock from grass in a garden. It will be twelve inches
wide and have a full length of roughly 85 feet. Broken up
into manageable lengths, these smaller rectangular quilts
will combine to form the whole.
In
addition to the tile: cut, nipped and smashed into many
shapes, additional texture and color accents will be added
using pebbles, millefiori, glass and tumbled marble.
The
landscape this quilt will live in is already linear and
stark, and so the design echoes this with all the pieces
falling within a clean grid pattern.
